More Food

Last week...

I made chicken buns from scratch!

Thanks to the bread machine for kneading the dough :)

They were yummy even for a first-timer.

Next up, claypot chicken rice!

Very easy to make. Lots of dried shrimps but still lacking salted fish.

And just now, Rui pan-fried these salmon fillets. YUM!

The skin is always the best.

Dinner and tomorrow's lunch - curry chicken with rice! Can't wait.

Kuih Malas for Lazy People Like Me

Made kuih malas (aka cucur udang or prawn fritters in English) from scratch because Rui requested for it.
Didn't know that it was so easy to make!
Mummy normally makes this but she's not here at the moment :(

The outcome

Best eaten with sweet chilli.
Mae Ploy's really good :)

Food

Bought two huge live mud crabs for $60. Rui made chili crab and just boiled the other.

Goldsteins pies at Pacific Fair... blegh.

Sunday brunch with Charlene and Benson at DaeJangKum in Sunnybank

Tried cooking this because I was craving for chicken's feet with mushroom and it turned out the same when cooked with chicken thighs. I'm so happy to have learnt how to use star anise!

Happy Mother's Day

As a pre Mother's Day celebration, I cooked something special for mummy yesterday before she flew back to KL. Also gave her a pair of blue-stoned earrings which she immediately wore. This happy chef stood and cooked for two hours but it was all worth it.

Cooked the mushroom sauce from scratch, pan-fried barramundi fillets, honey glazed baby carrots with almond flakes with roasted potatoes tossed in olive oil.

Mummy loved it :) That's all I needed to know as everything was a first for me.

Happy Mother's Day, mummy, you will always be my superwoman!
And YES, we've done the laundry just like what you told me on the phone this morning :)

Season Greetings

More Christmas pressies from colleagues :)

I made Oreo cheesecake (aka cookies and cream cake) just now!!!

Crushed Oreo cookies and butter as the base

Philly cheese!!!

Must follow the recipe in order to succeed

Not satisfied with the layout because Rui and mummy were like "??????"

Two more days until my 5-day weekend!!!!!!!!!!!

1st Attempt at Making Aglio Olio

I didn't know aglio olio is so easy to cook!

Tomorrow's lunch :)
Added lots of cili padis and dried chilli to spice it up.

Half Price

We went to Garden City after work and bought ten bottles of Tresemme shampoos and conditioners. The guy at the checkout counter asked, "do you own a hair salon or something?", I replied, "no, they are all for me :)"

Only $5 for a 900ml bottle!!! I guess these will last me 6 months.

These eggplants are from the tree behind our house.
We had an eggplant feast for a week.

Red

I think I bought this OPI Swiss set as my birthday present.

I'm still unsure whether Rui allows me to get myself more pressies :P

Gave mummy a break, so I bought sushi home for dinner.

Returned my brother's call and talked to Jake for a while. I heard koko asking "Do you want to talk to Mai Jas?"... and Jake replied "Yessss". SO CUTE!

Jake, "Haiiiiii!"
Me, "Hiii Jake!"
Jake, "Is popo coming back?"
Me, "-_____- Yesss, she is going back soon. Do you want to speak to popo?"
Jake, "Yesssss"
Passed the phone to mummy and I think Jake asked about crocodiles and stuff. She said it's cold out there, that's why we didn't visit the crocs, then Jake went "is there snow?!"

If only I get to be with him 24/7!!! I miss everyone back home. So thankful that I have Rui and mummy here with me.

We'll have to start packing this weekend. Pre-settlement date inspection on Saturday! Woohoo!!! My colleague has also purchased a new house but he has 30years worth of packing to do, whereas I, only three. I wouldn't have the heart to leave a house after 30 years... there's just too many memories. Told koko that I don't ever want to move again after this. Better stay put at one house for the rest of my life, unless the next house is better than the current one :P

Hayman Island Day 4

Had breakfast at the Entertainment Center again. Played some table tennis and then off to the beach for some water sports. We saw a sea turtle while sailing on the catamaran. It started to get boring because the wind wasn’t strong enough so we hopped on the kayak and started paddling.

Swam in all the salt-water as well as heated pools in this resort and sunbathed for the rest of the time (from 1pm to 5pm)… so you could imagine that we are like two lobsters being overcooked. I am starting to love the sun!!! Can’t wait for spring to come so that we can head off the the Gold Coast and sunbathe again. The winter weather here isn’t as cold as in Brisbane so I guess everyone would want to flock to this island as it’s listed as one of the leading hotels in the world. Love it when all the staff here (including the cleaners/gardeners… Everyone!) greets you whenever you see them. I’d rate their service 101%.

Since we have tried all the restaurants on the island, it was time for some in-room dining ;) I love it how the waiter/waitress gives an explanation for every dish you order because it is very informative. He even set the table up before placing our food on it.

Entrée: Raw salmon with green papaya salad

Rui's main: Rosemary lamb cutlets

My main: Angus beef steak

Dessert: (Brie) Cheese platter with complimentary crackers

Hayman Island Day 3

Good morning!

We cruised to the Great Barrier Reef after breakfast!!!

It was an experience of a lifetime to snorkel the world-known Great Barrier Reef. The corals were breathtakingly beautiful. I held onto Rui’s hand while snorkelling because I was afraid I might get lost or maybe get bitten by a shark :P

Saw a few whales on our way back to Hayman Island. Ginger tablets do help with motion sickness!

Dinner at the Oriental

Entrée: Crispy duck leg salad

My main: Goan style king fish with coconut rice

Rui's main: Pad thai

Side dish: Seasonal vegetables with salted fish

Dessert: Mango, peace and lychee sherbet ♥
The best we've ever had!

Hayman Island Day 2

Woke up at about 8am. Walked along the beach to get to the restaurant.

Had a sumptuous buffet breakfast at the Entertainment Centre. Sipped on orange juice, earl grey tea and champagne early in the morning… ahhh.

Complained about the construction noise and got upgraded to the Lagoon room :)

Had soft shell crab club and Hayman burger for lunch. Sunbathed by the heated pool whilst reading The Kite Runner.

Played some tennis and had Italian for dinner at La Trattoria. Complimentary bread and olives for starters, raw beef with spinach and cheese as the entrée. I had the hand crafted pasta with duck, Rui had the sirloin beef and we shared the mushrooms in olive oil.
